About Us

Mission Science is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that endeavors to demystify STEM concepts with fun, easy to understand video demonstrations using affordable recycled materials from around the house.

Our ultimate hope is to inspire girls, around the world, to explore STEM participation one experiment at a time!

I launched Mission Science initially to document my own learnings and capture those special moments in my educational journey where a particular event or experience associated with Science brought me joy and excitement!  Since I was 6 years old, I have been fascinated by all things Science. On weekends, I used to love hanging out with my dad in the garage to look for some “good trouble” to get into! My time tinkering with gadgets over the next few years, were some of the happiest childhood memories I have. Our house at the time overlooked Mission Hills in the Bay Area and this became the perfect backdrop for my laboratory of life. Hence, the name Mission Science was born.

From placing second in my first grade Science Fair, where I made a mess by trying to prove the viscosity of different household liquids, to exploring microscopy using a revolutionary paper microscope as a second grader, these moments of curiosity and engagement with Science led to my participation, and third place win, at the Bay Area Science Olympiad in the Circuit Design competition.

These events shaped and amplified my love of learning and led to the formation of Project Terra, an AI-based solution to help humans recycle effectively, improving recycling percentages. I formed a team with two other female classmates and designed a Raspberry Pi based program that would acquire and analyze images of discarded items. We collaborated with students from IIT-Madras and received an AI model pre-trained with 12,000 images that we incorporated into our cloud-hosted program. Our hard work, determination, and perseverance lead to our third place recognition at the Synopsys Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair

I wanted to journal all these amazing experiences so that I could share my perspective with other students interested in STEM. During COVID-19 lockdowns, I decided to get in front of the camera and bring my physics experiments to life! From demonstrating Newton’s Laws of Motion, to exploring various forms of energy, to building a Rube Goldberg Machine (my favorite!), these projects not only helped me to feel connected to the world, but it was a way for me to explore my passion project and start taking it to the next level.

When I decided that I wanted to be able to do more than just passively showcase cool science topics, I incorporated Mission Science into a nonprofit organization so that I could hold fundraisers and Donation Drives for necessary supplies and classroom materials to give back to the community.
